Mimispot, the African social platform we are developing together with Q42 and eVA Fund, is currently in a soft launch phase. The platform has been launched in several countries and a diaspora team is working in Amsterdam to generate valuable local news for the communities. At the same time we’ve got people in several countries promoting the platform and gathering feedback on what works and what doesn’t work.
Launching a social network is something you should plan, but where to start… It’s not like you launch a few social networks every year. But the great thing is that we’ve got a very enthusiastic team that dares to explore different approaches and takes the time to learn and improve.
It is an extremely interesting period where we learn a lot on many different areas. Every UI pattern is being challenged on feature phones and with the high variety of users (from the local uneducated farmer in rural Zambia to the University student in Nairobi). But also the sheer variety of phones and browsers and the way the site behaves is challenging, but fun to cope with.
